Dr. Stephenson A. Tomlinson, M.B.E.

Dr. Stephenson A. Tomlinson is a distinguished Caymanian physician, general surgeon, healthcare pioneer, and former legislator whose career has been dedicated to advancing medical care in the Cayman Islands.

After completing his primary and secondary education in the Cayman Islands, Dr. Tomlinson was accepted into the University of the West Indies at just 16 years old. He graduated as a medical doctor at the age of 21 and completed clinical training in medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, and anesthesia at the University Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.

Dr. Tomlinson later pursued specialist surgical training in the United Kingdom, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1979. He has practised as a general surgeon in the Cayman Islands, the United Kingdom, Jamaica, and the United States, and previously served as Chief Surgeon with the Cayman Islands Health Services.

A visionary in private healthcare, Dr. Tomlinson established the Professional Medical Centre in 1985, one of the earliest ambulatory care centres of its kind. In 2000, he founded the Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital, the first private hospital in the Cayman Islands.

Dr. Tomlinson currently provides medical and surgical care at Savannah Medical Clinic, where he combines extensive clinical experience with a compassionate and patient-centred approach. He remains committed to helping individuals and families achieve better health through expert diagnosis, personalized treatment, and high-quality care.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Tomlinson represented the District of George Town in the Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1996. In 2002, he was awarded the M.B.E. by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his service and contributions.
